‘My child is 7 years old , he is an average student . His problem is that , most of the time he is lost in his own world . He often makes up fictional stories and characters. Due to this his studies are hindered. His teachers also complains that though he is physically present in the class but mentally he is somewhere else. What is the solution to this problem ?.’
This question was asked by a Mother from Bhopal in the recent December’ 18 edition of the prestigious magazine The Jagran Sakhi, I have replied to this query in the article ‘ Creative Thinking is Natural in Children’. This article highlights how imagination and creative thinking plays a pivotal role in your child’s life and how parents should nurture and channelize their creative thinking into fruitful activities . Every child is born with an imagination. Imagination is the door to possibilities. It is where creativity, ingenuity, and thinking outside the box begin for child development. Imaginative and creative play is how the child learns about the world. This article also highlights the do’s and don’ts which are to be followed by the parents .
- Children with imagination are high on creativity . Thus parents should encourage their children to take part in activities like music, art and dance. Parents should nurture and hone their children’s creativity skills.
- Children like making up fictional stories . Instead of refuting their ideas and stories , parents should make an effort to understand what the child is trying to convey through his/her stories.
- Encourage your child to make new friends ,but don’t force your decisions on them .
